Mixed Economy

Bringing out the best in all of us.

We will use the welfare system to ensure that those at the bottom can pick themselves up again. Our aim is to increase social mobility and to ensure that everyone has a chance to make a good life for themselves and their families.

However, we acknowledge the issues present in the current welfare programs and we aim to rebrand the welfare roll to incentivize job-searching for people out of work. Our end goal will be to modify the system to provide a secure social safety net that doesn't forget our society's most fragile members and helps them push forward back into society without the fear of being punished for doing so.

Social Welfare Programs

We will use the welfare system to ensure that those at the bottom can pick themselves up again. Our aim is to increase social mobility and to ensure that everyone has a chance to make a good life for themselves and their families.

However, we acknowledge the issues present in the current welfare programs and we aim to rebrand the welfare roll to incentivize job-searching for people out of work. Our end goal will be to modify the system to provide a secure social safety net that doesn't forget our society's most fragile members and helps them push forward back into society without the fear of being punished for doing so.

Private Property

Private property provides a clear incentive for productivity at an individual level, creating a more robust and organic economy that benefits the overall population. We believe that strongly securing property rights will allow our population to build themselves up for a better future. With this in mind, we do understand the risk of monopolies and we will regulate the economy to ensure that the productivity and innovation of individuals and small businesses will not be undermined by big corporations.

Public Sector

The economy needs reliable infrastructure to connect supply chains and efficiently move goods, services, and consumers. By investing in infrastructure that connects  markets, we create a more versatile and competitive economy and workforce, which will stimulate the economy. By creating and maintaining infrastructure, we will directly impact and improve the lives of people by creating jobs and providing easy and practical modes of transportation. This shall be done with the awarding of government contracts to private firms, allowing efficient construction and creating jobs. After construction, the infrastructure would be owned in a public-private model.

The Free Market

We believe that a free market is essential for economic growth and we want to ensure that markets remain competitive and that they adapt to consumers' voices by focusing on the interaction between supply and demand which will help make it so that the best goods or services are provided to consumers at a lower price. This system, when not properly managed, is vulnerable to externalities and side effects, so we want to properly guide it with checks and balances so the free market may be used to guarantee a bright future and not just feed and satisfy short-term demands at the expense of long-term sustainability.

Our step by step economic plan.

1-Investment in education

A society cannot flourish without a well-educated populace. A strong education system reduces poverty, crime, and a whole host of other societal ills. These are the steps we believe are necessary to improve upon our current education system.

1.1- Provide affordable education by regulating tuition prices.

We do not object to high-quality education having higher tuition rates, nor do we object to the notion of private education, but tuition must be justified and the exploitation of students by banks and collection agencies in the form of loans that are enforced with aggressive and abusive collection tactics that fail to accurately inform borrowers of their rights must be put to an end.

1.2- Investment in technologies and teaching methods to assist educators.

The public education system has been around for more than 150 years and has not changed properly with the times. This is unjustified when taking into account technological advancements and the shifting necessities of modern society.

We must utilize a scientific approach in order to fully understand the consequences of different teaching tactics and how to improve them in order to guarantee that the outcome of our educational institutions will provide the future population with the qualifications and critical thinking skills needed not only to function but thrive in modern society.

Technological innovations in educational methods must be greatly incentivized by guiding the free market towards these areas with tax cuts and subsidies. Areas of relevant interest are: Artificial Intelligence and machine learning, cloud computing for education, and the use of Biometrics.

1.3- Increased funding to public schools and equitable circulation of funds in the school system.

In the US public schools are primarily funded through property taxes, which leads to schools in different neighbourhoods having vastly disparate levels of funding. This contributes to a cycle of poverty, significantly reduces social mobility and hinders the meritocratic system we want to achieve. We support the equitable circulation of funds. Instead of using property taxes, schools will be funded on a per-student basis.

2-Healthcare

The importance of a well-educated mind cannot be overstated, but it is equally important to have a well-trained and healthy body. We believe that the measure of a country is how well it treats the average person. That is why we propose a bold, yet practical solution to healthcare. In order the achieve this well-functioning healthcare system we plan to implement the following policies:

2.1-Universal healthcare.

The UCG supports universal healthcare. We believe that everyone who needs care should be able to receive it without going into crippling debt. There are a variety of different ways to implement universal healthcare but our model is based on the German system, which merges the public and private sector to get the best of both worlds. Our proposed system is universal and holistic, not just covering physical health but mental health as well.

Government regulation of drug prices is vital. Nobody should die or suffer serious physical harm because of their material circumstances. This would also adjust the cost of medications to a manageable level and make it so that doctors only deal with one government agency instead of multiple insurance agencies, streamlining the process and reducing administrative costs.

With easier accessibility and lower costs comes the issue of people overusing the system and causing long lines that would cut the amount of time that doctors can spend with their patients, negatively affecting the overall quality of the service. To prevent this from happening we would carry out an urgency ranking system that would allow the people that need care the most to get their needs met first while encouraging people with less urgent matters to make appointments with a private doctor or in a way that would not harm the overall workflow of hospitals.

2.2- A community based approach.

Health education programs should be implemented, using the now robust and reformed educational system to help empower individuals and communities to lead healthier lives by increasing their knowledge, influencing their attitudes, and by motivating them to care for their well-being. This education should be based on theory and evidence tailored to the target population based on specific risk factors, available resources, and cultural sensibilities. We realize that it is difficult to change people’s perspectives from the top down, which is why we will work to increase the availability and affordability of healthy and organic foods.

2.3- Decriminalizing marijuana and other addictive substances.

Addiction is a complex disease that involves compulsive use of one or more substances despite serious health and social consequences, it disrupts regions of the brain that are responsible for reward, motivation, learning, judgment, and memory. No health condition should be criminalized, people that suffer from addiction should not be put into jail or fined but instead helped. For that reason, we will focus on increasing the number of rehabilitation centers so that drug addiction can be properly treated. With this said, the selling of illegal substances that endanger the lives of citizens by causing them to develop addictions will be punished by the full extent of the law.

3-Political Reform

The policies listed above help establish proper conditions for a well-educated and healthy society, but the UCG believe a country is nothing without democracy. Without democracy, all our progress could be undone by tyrants.

3.1-Combat special interests.

Trying to influence the passing of legislation, regulations, or other government actions is not necessarily a bad thing. When used properly it strengthens democracy by allowing activists and non-profit organizations to have their say. However this system can be exploited and abused by powerful companies and conglomerates. For this reason, we want to limit how much these groups can spend on lobbying so that money does not muffle the voice of the people.

4-Energy and Environment

Improving our immediate conditions is a worthwhile effort, but we need to be aware that we inherited our planet from past generations, and it is our responsibility to keep it healthy for future generations,  We must ensure that we find alternative energy sources meet our power needs, ensuring that our children inherit a planet with a comfortable climate, clean water, and biodiversity.

4.1-A push towards clean sources of energy.

Non-renewable sources of energy such as fossil fuels, coal, gas, and oil will eventually run out. Investment in new, renewable and nuclear sources of energy is not just the desirable step forward, but an unavoidable one. With this in mind, we aim to create a comprehensive plan to incentivize the creation and optimization of green technologies

4.1.2- The solar roofing system.

Solar panels are a great way to offset energy costs, reduce the environmental impact of residential areas and provide a host of other benefits, such as supporting local businesses and contributing to energy independence.

The IBC and relevant building codes shall be updated to require that any new residential building will have a mandatory solar panel roofing system that provides, on peak months, a minimum of 40% of the estimated daily average of electricity usage. For any already existing residential buildings, solar roofing shall not be mandatory but it will be heavily incentivized by increasing the federal tax credit provided to the building of solar panels up to 50%.

5- Workers' rights

Workers’ rights are necessary to set healthy working boundaries between employers and their employees. The formation of these boundaries are vital to ensure that workers are not exploited, this is why we firmly support:

5.1-Unionization.

Non-union workers are effectively at-will employees, having the possibility of being fired for virtually any reason. Even with legal limitations in place, discrimination and unjust firings can still happen. That's why we support the unionization of the workers to make sure that decisions that affect workers must go through arbitration or grievance procedures. Of course, this party stands by that while unionization is a right, it's not a requirement. The UCG supports a national "Right to Work Amendment" to union laws to allow workers to opt out of Unions if they do not wish to join.
